Old versions of the Major in chronological order:
Original design, when I still used pencil. Damn ugly, but not as ugly as the one after it.
Did you cringe? I sure find myself doing so whenever I look at it.
Last pencil version. Thank god.
Dastardly Major Tombo kidnapping a friend's sexy witch character. Oh yes.
Newest sketch before the one I'm working on now. I made this almost four years ago. Never finished it, because I didn't really like where it was going. So now, almost four years later, I finally decided to redo this character. He had changed a little inside my head, and I was actually quite surprised to see how different the earliest versions looked to how he looks now. His hair and face, especially.
Wahey! Apparently, he got a bit younger and his hair got a bit more flamboyant. Also, I gave him a sword. Looks kinda katana-ish now, but this may change while I'm working on it. Also, the guns look like shit, but they're just placeholders.Ok. Bye.

i'd work a bit on figure drawing if i were you.
ReplyDeletethat last one? try standing like that yourself. i guarantee you'll be pretty off-balance.
when people stand with their legs apart like that, the hips tend to cant forward, the spine arches backward, and the head winds up on the same level as the hips. feet are angled outward for balance, with knees slightly bent.
also, poses with a 100% front view tend to be, no matter what you add to them, kind of... boring. have the shoulders at one angle and the hips at another. or just have the weight-bearing leg cant the hips up with the shoulders angling opposite that (ie, contrapposto).
there's lots of little things you can do to spice standing poses up.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to comment. While I can't try this position myself, seeing as I can't walk, I will ask someone to do it for me next time I get the chance.
ReplyDeleteI usually keep contrapposto in mind, but consciously chose to try something different for a change. I wanted him to look square-shouldered and symmetrical. A little threatening. Don't really think it's all that boring, to be honest.
As for 'working on figure drawing', I consider this purely a hobby and have no intention whatsoever of investing an insane amount of time in doing it, especially because about an hour of drawing pretty much completely exhausts me physically. Basically, I like to doodle, but don't take it too seriously and don't expect anyone else to.
But, again, thanks for commenting.
Hey Tombo, could you please email me @ levendis.pitmp@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI have a silly and completely pointless question for you about one of your previous blog posts.
